Dr. Lauren Hiyama was born in the southeast farming region of Fowler in Central California. He graduated cum laude from the University of California at Los Angeles with a B.S. in Physiological Science, and received his M.D. from the University of Southern California School of Medicine, where he was a member of the Dean's List

Dr. Hiyama continued his post-graduate training with an internship and residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and furthered his medical training by sub-specializing in the field of allergy and immunology at the UCLA/West LA Veteran's Administration Medical Center. He is board certified in internal medicine as well as allergy and immunology. His pediatric training was performed at the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles, a tertiary pediatric hospital respected for its pediatric immunology division.

Dr. Hiyama's research interests include chronic sinusitis, asthma, and chronic urticaria, also known as hives. He has written articles in various publications including Developmental Neuroscience, the Annals of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, and the American Journal of Kidney Diseases, and he has made various presentations at the annual meetings of the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology.
